Portland Relocation Information:
Portland is a great to place to live, work and play. If you are relocating to Portland from another state you’ve come to the right place. You are going to need a real estate agent who can dedicate an entire week or weekend to show you all the houses and neighborhoods you can handle. I’ve shown as many as 25 homes in one day for one of my clients. These are long days and nights for everyone but when the moving truck arrives you can feel good knowing that you will live in a great area, a house that meets all of your needs and that your agent negotiated you the absolute best deal possible for the home.
The Portland Real Estate market changes so frequently that you need a real estate agent who is knowledgeable not only on the Portland market as a whole but also each of the areas within the Portland market. This is very important. If your agent does not understand the market variations and changes of each specific location than you could be losing thousands of dollars and ultimately might not be happy with where you end up. Your agent will need to thoroughly know and understand the Oregon real estate contracts. In the Portland area most of the contracts for resale homes are the same however with a relocation your agent will also need to know the new construction contract inside and out. New construction contracts are very much weighted towards the builder for specific reasons and your agent needs to understand why certain sections are in the contract. Also, each new home builder has a different contract so you will need an agent who has worked with numerous builder contracts and can easily decipher the important components of the contract to fit your individual needs.
When it comes to relocating your home from another state you put a lot of trust in your real estate agent. They have to really know this market inside and out. Portland is a huge market with many different areas and you as the consumer have many choices to make. Do you want to be 5 minutes from your job? Would you rather sacrifice driving distance to work for a larger home? Is living in a top notch school district the most important thing for your family? Would you rather live in an area that has the best parks and recreation? Would you rather sacrifice square footage on your home for better quality surfaces like hardwood floors, granite counter tops and upgraded light fixtures? Do you need to live within 20 minutes from the mountain, 10 minutes from the river or 45 minutes from the Oregon coast? Do you need to have some privacy and live out in more rural areas or would you rather live in suburbia close to Starbucks, gyms, grocery stores and your job? Are you handy or do you need to purchase a brand new home. These are all questions that will be answered. Most of the relocation clients that I work with have something specific in mind in terms of location and home type and in the majority of cases these clients end up purchasing something completely different than what they wanted originally. This is normal and an important part of the home search process.
You need an agent who can quickly decipher what you need and then provide that for you. You need an agent that goes the extra mile. Your agent should be as involved as you want them to be. If you want me to pick you up from the airport, pick out your hotel, get a rental car ready and then spend all day everyday with you so you can be sure you’ve seen everything, than that’s what you need. If you have never been to Oregon you are going to need someone to show you places to eat, shop, where to watch a movie and what clubs you can join. You may want to do everything on your own and just need me to show you houses, negotiate and close the transaction. One thing you need to know about me is that I work really hard. I will not stop until you are satisfied. My goal will always be to get you the home you want and can afford in the shortest time possible. This is very important to my relocation clients. I don’t want to waste your time and I certainly don’t want you wasting my time. I understand that many of my relocation clients might only have 3 days to find their next home and I take that very seriously. There is no room for mistakes and we will need to stick to the schedule.
